Back hair is the subject of universal revulsion. It is also the subject of jokes on late-night talk shows. No one wants to have back hair. It is unsightly and makes for a Neanderthal-like appearance. You could have someone shave it off for you, but it would leave stubble. You may be too embarrassed to ask a salon technician to remove it for you. Fortunately, body sugaring offers an inexpensive way to remove unwanted back hair in the comfort of your own home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Large sheet or towel
  • Jar of body sugaring
  • Wooden spoon
  • Equal-sized strips of a clean cotton sheet
  • Body lotion
Step1
Select a friend you trust to help you, as you can't reach your back by yourself.
Step2
Spread a large sheet or towel on top of your bed.
Step3
Remove your shirt. If you're wearing a bra, take that off too.
Step4
Recline on the bed, on top of the sheet or towel. Roll over onto your stomach.
Step5
Get your friend to warm a jar of body sugaring mixture. For glass jars, this can be done in the microwave on 50-percent power for 1 minute. For plastic or metal jars, heat them gently in a pot of water on top of the stove. The body sugaring mixture should be the consistency of thick syrup once it's heated.
Step6
Have your friend pour the body sugaring mixture over your back. All of the back hair should be covered by the sugaring. A wooden spoon can be used to spread the sugaring evenly across your back, or your friend can do this with her hands.
Step7
Get your friend to apply strips of cotton sheeting over the body sugaring on your back. All of the sugaring should be covered by the cotton strips, with no gaps in between the strips.
Step8
Have your friend press down on each cotton strip, making sure it's sticking to your back.
Step9
Yank off the cotton strips one by one, pulling in the opposite direction of the hair growth on your back. This should be done swiftly, in order to minimize pain.
Step10
Rub some lotion into your back to soothe any potential irritation from the hair removal process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure your back is completely dry before applying body sugaring. If there's any moisture on your back, the sugaring won't stick and capture the hair you want to remove.
  • Avoid burns. Before coating your back with body sugaring, make sure it has cooled off enough to be comfortable to the touch. You don't want to get scalded.
