Many work place environments are set up to force employees to compete against one another for sales, promotions, performance as well as in many other areas. Although the competition may be helpful to the organization in gaining revenue, it can cause negativity and result in employees pitting against one another instead of working together to reach a common goal. Establishing camaraderie in the workplace can be beneficial in many aspects including helping the organization to exceed its expectations. Read on to learn how.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Provide training to employees in the area of team building to establish team building concepts.

  2. Step 2

Plan workplace activities and events to help employees feel comfortable with each other off site and on site. When individuals relate to each other in various settings it helps them to establish positive relationships.

  3. Step 3

Instead of giving individual assignments, formulate work task force, committees, and teams to work together to complete projects.

  4. Step 4

Conduct staff meetings on a routine basis allowing employees to brainstorm and do problem-solving together.

  5. Step 5

Help employees to build rapport with one another by having lunch meetings and company retreats in a relaxed environment.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to plan break out sessions during the meetings so that groups can formulate and have intimate discussions relating to company missions and goal setting.
  • Include employees in organizational goal development.
  • Beware of problem and difficult employees who can magnify problems and create confusion.
