The Nintendo Wii has revolutionized more than the world of gaming. Users everywhere are now browsing the Web with the versatile Wiimote controller and the Wii's Opera-powered browser, identified on the Wii menu as The Internet Channel. This browser does have a few notable limitations; but with a little practice and preparation, it can be an effective way to surf the Web on the big screen. Read on to learn more.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Nintendo Wii console
  • A Wiimote
  • An active Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Make sure your Wii is connected to the Internet, either by connecting it to your modem or router with an Ethernet cable or by granting it access to your wireless Internet connection. You can configure the latter by clicking the Wii Options button on the Wii menu, then clicking Wii Settings and finally clicking the Internet button. You must identify your wireless connection and enter your password if this connection is secure.

  2. Step 2

If The Internet Channel is not visible on the Wii Menu screen, download it by launching the Wii Shop Channel and locating it within the WiiWare section.

  3. Step 3

Launch The Internet Channel from the Wii Menu. Web addresses must be entered one letter at a time by pointing the Wiimote at an on-screen keyboard, which is far more time consuming than using a conventional keyboard. This means that personalizing your Favorites page with the sites you visit the most is crucial to a convenient surfing experience. Enter the URL of one of your favorite sites within the Web Address section.

  4. Step 4

When your first favorite site loads, click the Favorites button at the bottom of the screen. On the Favorites screen, click the Add Favorites button to add this site to the Favorites menu. Repeat this process for each of your favorite sites; it will save you lots of time in the long run. Once your Favorites page is fully customized, rely on that page for quick surfing.

  5. Step 5

Familiarize yourself with the Wiimote's functions when viewing a page to get the most out of your surfing experience. Point the Wiimote at the screen to control your cursor. Use the "A" button as the left mouse button to click links. Scroll up, down, left and right with the directional pad. Zoom in and out with the "-" and "+" buttons. Press and hold the "B" button and move the Wiimote to scroll seamlessly in any direction.
