When listening to music duplicate songs can be annoying. However, this is a problem that can easily be addressed. Here's how you remove duplicate songs in iTunes.
Open iTunes and click on "View" and "Show Duplicates."
Step2
You will be shown all available duplicates.
Step3
You would then need to make the choice to delete one or more duplicates. Make sure you give a listen to some of these as they may be live or extended versions.
Step4
Deleting your music may be unrecoverable. So delete with care.
Tips & Warnings
Give a listen to each song you wish to remove as deleting may be unrecoverable.

Duplicate Finder has worked great for me! It has been a terrific assistance for me in eliminating duplicate images and songs from my hard drives - saving me loads of time.

I used Duplicate Finder and although it deleted all duplicate files, the tracks still show up in my itunes library, I just (obviously) can't play the ones attached to deleted files. I have about 45GB of music (now 90) and would like to avoid deleting manually. Any advice?

Thanks jonh2002. I'll check out Duplicate Finder. I have thousands of duplicates on iTunes now and doing this the manual way just is not feasible.

I am using Duplicate Finder to solve this problem…
Duplicate Finder find and delete duplicate files including mp3s, Advance marking system lets you select files by date, size, and several other criteria. Duplicate files can be deleted, moved, or copied.
Duplicate Finder search duplicates using byte by byte or crc32 to give you most accurate and faster results. Good interface with lots of features.

You should also try Directory Report to find your duplicate MP3s. http://www.file-utilities.com
It is fast, has options to customize your search and can even edit MP3 tags.
