Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- colored folders
- colored notebooks
- flash drive (optional)
- Microsoft Works/Excel
Step1
Purchase some different colored folders for the aspects of your business. Give each folder a label. Label one folder "Completed Invoices". Label another "Purchases & Receipts". Then another "Customers and Sales".
Step2
Then buy some notebooks to go with your corresponding folders. Give them the same labels as your folders and then match them up.
Step3
Place a receipt in your Purchases and Receipts folder whenever you make a purchase for your business. Then once you have a sale, note it in your notebook with the customer's name, address, and the product sold inside your "Sales" folder. Store all completed invoices in the completed invoices folder.
Step4
Organize your craft and work area. Buy a file box or cabinet to place your business files in. Also, for those of you on a small budget, you could purchase bookends to place your folders and notebooks in between as well. Organize all of your beads and tools to where you will find them easy to access. You can organize by color, style, type, or whichever you like. Then find a container to place all of your tools and stringing materials in.
Step5
Create workbook pages either in Microsoft Works or Excel. Create similar pages to those of your notebooks. Keep information stored in your computer that is similar to your paper copies. Or, you could also store all of your information into a flash drive storage unit.
Step6
Enjoy all of your hard work to get your business organized. Once you have all of your purchases and sales separated, preparing taxes for the next upcoming year will be a breeze. What a way to begin the new year!

on 2/22/2008 Really good article with most of the basics covered. I wish I had read it a year ago. I'm doing catch-up now.
The part you omitted is how to divide up your time to get the creative, administrative, marketing and sales components all done and not lose your sanity.
