How to Get Cast on a Reality Show

Reality shows are very popular right now. Shows like Real World, America’s Next Top Model and American Idol are all about the struggles of real people. Audiences enjoy getting a peek into the lives and drama of others. The good thing about reality shows is that they are constantly looking for new and interesting people to cast. If you are interested in being on one of these shows, there are a few things to keep in mind so that you can increase your chances of being cast.

1. If possible, research the show you want to be on. This isn’t always feasible, but if you can you should learn as much as you can about people who have been cast or “won” on the reality show that you want to be on. There are new reality shows popping up all the time, and you can’t always research the new ones but you can definitely research the more established shows like America’s Next Top Model or American Idol. Learn about the people who made it on the show.
2. If there are several audition dates, prepare to go to at least two of them. Give yourself the opportunity to audition again if you don't pass the first audition.
3. Be larger than life. These shows cast people who are interesting to watch. They are looking for individuals that will get them ratings.
4. Be confident in who you are and the person you will be on television. Make peace with how you may be portrayed should you be cast. This will make your audition more realistic and true.
5. Relax. It’s natural for you to be nervous but don’t let your nerves get the best of you. This is your chance to make a great first impression. That impression can go a long way in getting you cast on the show.
