Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Color printer or crayons or markers
- 8 ½ x 11 inch heavy stock paper
- Computer with Internet access if you do not draw
- Word processing software or other publishing software if you do not draw
Step1
Decide what your coupons will offer. You can use the list provided for coupon ideas or make up your own based on your kids favorite things to do. Create 20 and duplicate them once for a total of 40 coupons. Examples of coupons could include "No bath tonight," "Your choice of pizza toppings" or "Watch one hour of extra TV."
Step2
A 6 ½ inch by 2 ½ inch coupon book makes a nice size. You can fit three coupons on an 8 ½ inch by 11 inch sheet of card stock. You should draw your own coupons or create the coupons in a software program on your computer. If you draw your own, use a ruler to measure and mark where each coupon should begin and end. If you use a word processing or publishing software, mark coupon placement on the left-hand margin.
Step3
Draw a picture on each kid coupon or download a free graphic from the Internet to place on the coupon. Write or type what the kid coupon is for on each one. Create 20. Don’t forget to make a cover the same size as the coupon for your kid coupon book.
Step4
After you create 20 kid coupons, print them on a color printer twice if you used a computer. If you drew the coupons, take them to a local printer and have them printed twice on heavy card stock. This will prevent you from using the originals and recreating them again to make 40 kid coupons.
Step5
The best way to cut the coupons is to use a heavy-duty paper cutter. It is the best way to get straight lines. Local printers have great paper cutters and it is free to use them. Once you have cut the kid coupons, stack them. This should make a 1/3-inch coupon book. At the local printer, you can use their heavy-duty staples or have them bind the coupon book for you. If you have them bind the coupon book for you, they will put a bonding agent like glue on the edges and cover the edge to bind it. You can have them glue your cover to the front.
