Chances are you or someone you know has experienced an overheating car. Without a doubt, being stranded on the side of the road with your car hood open and smoke drifting out, is an embarrassing inconvenience. Luckily, I found a temporary solution to help you get to your destination without overheating.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car heater
  • Automobile
  1. Step 1

When you notice your car's temperature gauge rising, your car is on the verge of overheating and you should pull over and turn your engine off.

  2. Step 2

However, if you must arrive at your destination, a mechanic preferably, crank up the heater on full blast as this will cool the engine.

  3. Step 3

Crack a few windows open to alleviate the temperature inside your car. It's bad enough you're on the brink of overheating and there's no point baking in your car with the windows rolled up.

  4. Step 4

Drive slower and notice the temperature gauge go down. Have a mechanic check the coolant in the radiator, your car hoses and your thermostat.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get your cooling system checked as soon as possible to prevent engine damage.
  • This might not work for all vehicles. I've tried this on a 1990 735i BMW and on a 2004 Dodge Neon.
