1
Invest in a hefty collection of button-up dress shirts with short sleeves, as these are the mainstay of the Forrest Gump wardrobe. The shirts should either be plain or have a plaid pattern. Whites and blues are preferred.
-
2
Purchase a collection of slacks. Ideally, the pants should be a bit short in length to better show off the socks when seated. Dark browns, khakis and grays are the preferable color scheme.

-
3
Find a collection of men's dress socks. Patterns should be bold (think large stripes, etc.). Color scheme is a matter of choice, but keep in mind that they will be worn with an outfit that does not match.
-
4
Purchase at least one pair of brown ankle boots as well as one pair of 70s-style athletic/running shoes. This is the only footwear you are likely to need for casual and dress purposes.
-
5
Buy a couple of linen suits to wear for dressy occasions. Whites and light browns are both good choices. Normally you will pair these suits with one of your button-up dress shirts. Ties are only recommended on very special occasions such as meeting the president.
-
6
Wear a button-up shirt tucked into a pair of slacks for casual, everyday purposes. This outfit should be completed with a pair of socks that do not match the color scheme and the boots or running shoes.
-
7
Consider topping off the look with a neat and tidy crew cut.
