Store Swimwear for Winter

Packing up your swimwear for the winter can be a sad reminder of the long, cold months ahead. However, if you pack and store your swimwear hastily, you may also be disappointed in the condition of your swimwear come next summer. Take the time to clean, pack and store properly so you can enjoy your swimwear for another season. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a gentle laundry detergent formulated specifically for delicate clothing items.

    • 2

Wash your swimwear. Once you have chosen a detergent, you must choose a method of washing. Very delicate items may need to be hand washed, while others do just fine in your washing machine. Check the tag on your swimwear for specific cleaning instructions.

    • 3

Dry your swimwear thoroughly. Again, you should check the tag on your swimwear for cleaning instructions, but it is always a good idea to hang dry your swimwear. Some fabrics do just fine in the dryer, however more delicate fabrics can become misshapen or weak.

    • 4

Pack your swimwear in fabric garment bags if possible. Regular plastic bags allow moisture to be trapped inside and can cause your swimwear to mildew. If space is an issue, plastic storage bags that allow you to vacuum out the air are also a good option.

    • 5

Store your garment bags in a temperature controlled environment if possible. Under-bed or closet storage is preferable to attic or basement.

    • 6

Clean your storage area before placing your packed swimwear in there for the winter.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are concerned about washing your swimwear in your washing machine even if the tag says you can, than take the safe route and wash it by hand.

  • If you are using moth balls or crystals to help prevent insect damage, make sure the moth balls or crystals are not touching your swimwear. Cedar balls can also be used to help preserve your swimwear.
