How to Walk Barefoot

We're not born with shoes on our feet, so why are people so afraid of walking barefoot? It's one of the most natural things a person can do, and if you take care to follow a few safety precautions, you can safely walk barefoot anywhere.

Instructions

    • 1

Take off any shoes, socks, sandals or slippers you may be wearing. Put most of your weight on the balls of your feet as you walk around barefoot, rather than on your heels.

    • 2

Step down with each step, rather than sliding or shuffling your feet, as many people tend to do in shoes. You don't want to scrape your feet on any rough surfaces on the ground, but instead, use the strong parts of your feet to come into contact with it.

    • 3

Use your toes to grip the ground for traction. Your feet are naturally able to walk and be able to grip most surfaces, even though we're not accustomed to it because of shoes. Trust your feet and use your toes.

    • 4

Watch where you are going. Safety concerns are the main reason walking barefoot is not widely accepted and is likely due to the possibilities of injuring the foot by stepping on sharp objects. You don't necessarily need to stare at the ground when you walk, but get in the habit of glancing up and down so you can see what's in your direct path.

Tips & Warnings

  • The more you walk barefoot, the more conditioned your feet will become to it. Eventually you will be able to walk without injury even if you step on some foreign objects.
