As with our human family and friends, we eulogize our beloved pets to honor their memory and thank them for the positive influence they've had on our lives. A eulogy can help others understand the connection you had with your pet by describing your pet's character and by sharing moving experiences from your pet's life. Read on to learn how to write a eulogy for a pet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Celebrate your pet by sharing a brief timeline of his life. Remember the day you brought him home, the time he was naughty and the friends he made.

  2. Step 2

Praise your pet's memorable characteristics. Perhaps your pet, more than an ordinary animal, was forgiving, whimsical, droll or ephemeral. There can never be another one like her, so infuse your eulogy with her specific qualities.

  3. Step 3

Find solace in the permanent gifts your pet left behind. Describe a funny story involving your pet that makes you laugh or discuss how your pet helped you to become a more compassionate person.

  4. Step 4

Consider the humility of your pet if you feel stumped when you pen your words. Your pet may have been faithful, loving and nonjudgmental. Honor him simply by describing these basic qualities.

  5. Step 5

Give your pet a voice by imagining what she would say. Your pet told you in her actions that she loved you, so you can imagine how she would have given words to these feelings.

  6. Step 6

Incorporate your religious beliefs into the eulogy. Your beliefs about an afterlife for your pet may include heaven, God, reincarnation or something else. Explain the peace and comfort your pet can look forward to in these terms.

  7. Step 7

Seek closure at the end of the eulogy. Say farewell and thank God, the animal shelter or fate for bringing this special creature into your life.
