Twin tip skis have become popular in recent years along with snowboards. They are more maneuverable than snowboards, which is why many have abandoned snowboards for twin tip skis. If you enjoy freestyle, follow these steps to ski on twin tip skis.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Recognize the differences between twin tip skis and regular skis. Twin tip skis are shorter, slightly wider on each end than at the middle and have upturned tips on each end.

  2. Step 2

Realize that upturned tips allow great maneuverability. You can ski backwards or perform any stunt which requires you to land in a backward position.

  3. Step 3

Know that your center of balance will be different than when skiing on regular skis. The bindings are located near the center of the ski to maintain equal balance between front and back when landing.

  4. Step 4

Find a ski area that has a special park built for stunt skiing by researching online. This type of park will allow you to ski more freely without worrying about injuring others.

  5. Step 5

Decide whether to use poles or not when twin tip skiing. If you do a lot of stunts they may get in the way. Also, if you get used to skiing with poles, you may find it hard to go without.

  6. Step 6

Rent twin tip skis to try them out before purchasing. If you enjoy them, you may also want to try ski blades which are much shorter and create the effect of skating on snow.
