Facebook is a fun tool that you can use to join networks, post bulletins or write notes to the people who study, live or work near you. Facebook can be a great tool to reconnect with old friends or meet new people. However, it can open up your private life for the world to view. For that reason, you should watch what you type and post, or what you thought was a clever or hilarious post might quickly cause you to lose face on Facebook.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use good manners and judgment when surfing or posting on the profiles of other Facebook users. While each user is free to post whatever they like about themselves, their profile is most likely meant for their close friends. Leaving profane, rude or sexually explicit comments to their posts is a fast way to ruin a Facebook reputation, for you and them, so save face and be nice.

  2. Step 2

Act casual when you run into the person you have been secretly stalking on Facebook. You will not impress that pretty girl or hunky guy by informing them that you read their profile daily and already know every last detail of their personal lives. Save face by denying your Facebook crush.

  3. Step 3

Facebook only when sober, as drunken posts can quickly destroy your Facebook social life. You can always delete your own inebriated posts, however, those booze induced comments you place on others profiles will be there forever for the entire Facebook world to see.

  4. Step 4

Respect the fact that Facebook is a popularity contest, and the number of "Happy Birthday" posts one receives is a measure of that popularity. Sending as many "Happy Birthday" posts to your friends as possible will ensure that you too receive a high number on that special day of the year, securing your Facebook popularity.

  5. Step 5

Remember that your family and future employers can find your Facebook profile with a click of a button. Posting photos of your Mardi Gras celebration or your successful keg stand might not be the best way to impress your parents or your future boss.
