How to Use a Program to Solve Anagrams

Anagrams can be tough to solve. They're great exercise for the mind, but if you stumble across one that's over your head, try using a computer program to find the answer. They're widely available on the Internet for free and some of them can even find anagrams of entire sentences.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your web browser and go to the homepage of your preferred Internet search engine.

    • 2

      Search for "solve anagrams."

    • 3

Open one of the first few pages that popped up in your search. Alternatively, you can find links to a few of the more popular solving sites in the Resources section of this article.

    • 4

Type in the word or phrase you'd like to anagrammatize. Leave punctuation out of the search, since the engine will only find anagrams for the letters you include.

    • 5

Browse through the results of the search for any interesting anagrams. If you entered more than one word and the engine didn't find any matches, try submitting each word individually or in pairs.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the engine can't find any matches, don't worry. The best tools to solve an anagram are your creativity and a dictionary, so keep at it.

  • If you have to resort to solving it on your own, try scrambling the letters and writing them in a circle. This takes your mind off what the original word was and helps you see potential anagrams.
