Capoeira is the ancient art of fight-dance. It has been used for centuries in countries like Brazil, and has become popularized by modern western cultures. Learning Capoeira can be a lifetime goal, but teaching it can begin once the basics are perfected. Follow some steps to help you teach Capoeira fight-dance and impart your hard earned knowledge to others to keep this vibrant tradition alive.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn the basic art of Capoeira before trying to teach it to anyone else. Travel to Brazil if possible to learn Capoeira the way the natives practice.

  2. Step 2

Find a school that teaches Capoeira. Search the web or call the United Capoeira Association for more information.

  3. Step 3

Observe the way that Capoeira is taught by masters. Take notice of the method of teaching a routine and learn the basics of Capoeira. Educate yourself on the history of Capoeira and teach it to your students as it is an important part of Capoeira arts.

  4. Step 4

Begin by teaching the basic ginga, and slowly progress to teach attacks. Ensure that your students have the basic rhythm of the dance before moving on to defenses or combination routines.

  5. Step 5

Make sure you are well versed in Capoeira Regional, Capoeira Angola (the most traditional form) and Capoeira Contemporânea (a contemporary form of the art). Demand that your students learn Capoeira Angola well before teaching the offset techniques.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan a trip for your students to Brazil or at least a Capoeira festival where they can see many different forms of Capoeira performed by learned artists.
  • Teach the basics of Respeito (Respect), Responsabilidade (Responsibility), Segurança (Security), Malicia (Cleverness) and Liberdade (Liberty). These fundamental basics are behind Capoeira philosophy.
