Deep-sea fishing is an exciting sport for many people. There's nothing better than to be on the open sea and snag a big one. In order to maximize your chances of succeeding, the right kind of bait is important.

From Quick Guide: Deep Sea Fishing
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pick bait for deep-sea fishing depending on the type of fishing you are planning to do. Good bait for trolling is different from what you'd use for bottom fishing. When you troll, you're likely to catch barracuda, tuna, sailfish or shark, depending on where you are in the oceans. When you bottom fish, you might catch such fish as red snapper and grouper.

  2. Step 2

Use both artificial and live bait for trolling. Artificial bait needs to be in bright colors that will attract fish. The artificial lure also needs to be a type that has a lot of movement. Skirts (extra attachments that you can buy) are also good on artificial lure for deep-sea fishing. Skirts are usually made to reflect the sunlight and cause the lures to be even more attractive.

  3. Step 3

Choose live bait in combination with artificial bait for deep-sea trolling. Cigar minnows, shad and other various types of bait fish are good picks for trolling. In most cases, if fish are not biting artificial bait, they will be attracted to live bait. Try both for the best results in deep-sea fishing.

  4. Step 4

Know that bottom fishing and still fishing are basically the same. Pick bait for this type of deep-sea fishing by choosing frozen bait or fresh fish that has been caught but is not edible. Bait such as squid, frozen cigar minnows or fresh fish that has been cut up in small pieces are all good choices for bottom fishing.
