It is easy to create a high quality scan of a Newspaper article using Adobe Photoshop, provided you select the correct scanning options. The scanner used in this explanation is a CanoScan® LiDE 80.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Open Adobe Photoshop, and go to File, Import, and select the name of your scanner.
Step2
Place your newspaper or newsprint article on the scanner bed.
Step3
Under “Select Source,” choose “Platen.” Under “Color Mode,” choose “Text Enhanced” or “Newsprint.” Make your output resolution 300 or higher.
Step4
Select preview. After your initial image comes up, make your necessary adjustments and cropping.
Step5
Click scan. Save your work.

Tips & Warnings

  • The higher the resolution during the scan, the higher “quality” (finer grain) the image is.
  • The higher the resolution of your image, the more space it will take up on your hard drive.
  • Keep track of your available hard drive space using the Disk Defragmenter utility. See “How to Use the Disk Defragmenter in PC to Clean Up Your Hard Drive” for more information.
