To scan negatives using Adobe Photoshop, you need a scanner with negative scanning capability. The scanner used in this explanation is a CanoScan® LiDE 80.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photographic Negatives
  • Scanner with negative scanning capability
  • Adobe Photoshop
  1. Step 1

Open Adobe Photoshop, and go to "File, Import" and select the name of your scanner.

  2. Step 2

Line up the removable Film Scanning devise on the left-hand side of the scanner bed.

  3. Step 3

Carefully place your negative strip in the Film Guide, making note of which number on the Guide the negative lines up with.

  4. Step 4

Place the scanner’s Film Adaptor Unit over the negative you wish to scan.

  5. Step 5

Under “Select Source” choose as either “Color Negative Film” or “Black and White Negative Film.” Then, under “Color Mode,” you can choose to either scan it as a Color Negative or a Black and White Negative.

  6. Step 6

Choose your output resolution, and under “Select Frame,” choose the number on the Film Guide your negative corresponds with.

  7. Step 7

Select “preview.” After your initial image comes up, make any necessary adjustments, and click “scan.” Save your work.
