There are all sorts of stress inducing situations that we may look back on in our older years and wonder how something so silly could have made us so angry. Then again, there are seemingly benign situations that always seem to be able to get a rise out of some while for others, it is a non issue. For once, join the crowd of “others” and do not get stressed from life’s nonsense.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • cool
  • stressful situation
Step1
Timeout: This is one of the biggest things that everyone who gets stressed out needs to learn to do. Taking a timeout means completely and totally divorcing yourself from the cause of said stress. Whatever the reason may be; whether it be personal, work related, friends, family, or otherwise; one of the best things that you can do, whenever possible, is take that all important timeout so that you can get a fresh perspective on the situation and why you are so mad in the first place.
Step2
Breathe and Count: If you are a believer in network television then this is another popular thing that people do in order to maintain their cool. Heavy breathing coupled with counting numbers; “10-1” is a popular list to count down; this somehow is alleged to enable you to gain some spiritual wisdom, inner clarity, peace of person, and should make you a calmer, saner person again.
Step3
Come Back to it Later: This is another popular item that not too many people are ever able to do: Two people are disagreeing, it escalates into a fight, which escalates into shouts and accusations and name calling and more. What this idea posits is that you both put your differences aside, agree to come back to this very issue in, say, 12 hours, and then go on with their lives as normal. While this may work for some, for others it is a complete fabrication because “setting aside a disagreement before the disagreement is resolved of its own volition” is preposterous. But, then again, maybe people who think that are a little too stressed out to begin with.
