Children seem to accumulate things faster than you can say the word "stuff." Giving your children spaces to store their stuff will help them to stay organized and keep things off the floor. Install rain gutter shelving in your child's room to give him a spot for storing books, collections and whatever else it is that he accumulates.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10-foot vinyl rain gutter
  • Hack saw
  • Rain gutter brackets
  • Dry wall anchors
  • Screws
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Electric drill or screw driver
  1. Step 1

Purchase a 10 foot length of vinyl rain gutter. Have the rain gutter cut in half at the store. Use a hacksaw to cut the rain gutter at home.

  2. Step 2

Pick a spot on the wall where the gutters can be at kid level. Mark the spot on the wall with pencil.

  3. Step 3

Use a level to determine where to install the dry wall anchors for the rain gutter brackets. Install the dry wall anchors.

  4. Step 4

Use a drill or screwdriver to install the brackets into the wall. Set the rain gutter in the brackets once they are secure.

  5. Step 5

Purchase vinyl end caps at a gutter supply store. Snap the end caps onto each of the rain gutter ends.

  6. Step 6

Put books, toys and other items in the rain gutter shelves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Secure the rain gutter brackets to studs whenever possible.
  • Put rain gutter shelving near the ceiling for storage of stuffed animals, collectible dolls or other items not regularly played with.
  • Not properly securing the rain gutter brackets can result in the shelves falling off the wall and potentially injuring your child.
