Bringing your lunch to work is a great way to save money and control your diet, and sometimes you just don't have time to take a lunch break. Before you pack that tuna fish sandwich and start chowing down at your desk, make sure you are being considerate of your coworkers, especially if you are eating in the vicinity of others who are working.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pack a food items that can be eaten without everyone knowing it, unless you are in the privacy of a closed office. Skip snacks like crunchy pretzels, chips and apples when eating among others who are working.

  2. Step 2

Minimize food odors, especially if they are offensive. Don't pack spicy ethnic, garlicky or fishy lunches. The smells of such foods could drive your workmates crazy. Popcorn is a tasty snack, but one burned bag in the microwave leaves a lingering stench.

  3. Step 3

Bring food you can heat in the microwave, if one is available, but not if the cooking time is 20 minutes and others need to heat their lunches too. Be careful not to create strange odors by overcooking food or containers.

  4. Step 4

Place food that needs refrigeration in airtight, spill-proof containers. You don't want to cause a stink or mess in the refrigerator that everyone uses. Keep all refrigerated items together in a lunchbox or bag.

  5. Step 5

Clear a space if you are eating at your workspace. Crumbs that fall in keyboards and spilled drinks can destroy computers.

  6. Step 6

Clean your eating area when you are done. Wrap up leftovers and trash in a plastic bag to reduce odors. Throw trash in receptacles in the kitchen rather than at your desk.

  7. Step 7

Mind your manners in the presence of others. Smacking and talking with your mouth is not only rude, it's annoying.

Tips & Warnings
  • Eat lunch in a cafeteria, breakroom or outside if you have that option at work It breaks up the monotony of the day and doesn't force those around you to smell, watch and listen to you eat.
  • Sandwiches and wraps can be discreetly eaten around others and don't require heating.
