How to Prepare for a Restylane Treatment

Restylane is a dermal filler product. Treatments are used to combat wrinkles and other signs of aging. Restylane gel is injected by syringe to a chosen area on the face. The finished result of a Restylane injection is a healthy, more youthful appearance and smoother skin.

    Instructions

      • 1

Speak to your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon about Restylane. They can answer any questions or concerns you have regarding your Restylane treatments.

      • 2

Avoid taking aspirin, St. John's Wort and high doses of Vitamin E before 24 hours before you are to receive your Restylane treatment. These medicines may increase the amount of bleeding at the Restylane injection site.

      • 3

Stay away from all anti-inflammatory medications like Advil, Motrin and Ibuprofen. These types of medications may cause both increased bleeding and bruising at the injection site.

      • 4

Get a prescription strength anti-viral medication before your Restylane treatment on your lips and around your mouth. If you have a history of cold sores, your Restylane treatment may induce an outbreak.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Request a topical anesthesia to help lessen your pain and discomfort during the procedure. Restylane injections are usually done in sensitive areas of the face.

    • Don't worry if you have animal allergies--Restylane is not an animal based product.

    • Plan for return trips. Restylane is not permanent. Restylane injections only last about four to six months.

    • Expect to experience burning, itching and swelling at the Restylane injection site. If these symptoms do not get better within 24 hours, contact your doctor.

    • Avoid over treating your skin with Restylane. Having lips that look disproportionately big or being unable to show emotion on your face looks unnatural and unattractive.
