You've just had a great visit with a potential client and the prospect looks good. Taking the time to write a thank you note to this client could mean the difference between closing the sale and not closing the sale. Here's how to write a thank you note that will move the prospective client closer to closing the deal.

Step1
Write the thank you note the same day as the sales visit. This way the details of the meeting are fresh in your mind and you won't have to look at your sales notes to recall the particulars.
Step2
Develop the thank you note with a sales plan in mind. Without being pushy, thank them for their time and consideration, and point to an eventual sales relationship. This will get them thinking ahead about how your company can help them do their business better.
Step3
Set a reasonable time frame. Setting a time frame for a return contact of less than two weeks gives a sense of urgency to the contract. Set a time limit with consideration of the type of business contract and size of the company.
Step4
Be realistically enthusiastic when you write the thank you note. If the meeting was positive, keep that tone when writing the thank you note. Your attitude will reflect in your writing, so be sure to remain positive and that will shine through.
Step5
Remember to thank them for their time. Make sure they know that you value their time and their potential business. Write your thank you note focusing on these two aspects of thought.
