1
Repair leaks in your house, from dripping faucets to leaking pipes. Check the gaskets around dishwashers, refrigerators and washers for a tight seal to reduce the condensation. Make sure the roof and gutters are in good condition and free from leaks.
-
2
Install air conditioners or dehumidifiers to reduce the humidity in your house. Make sure to clean the drip pans in dehumidifiers and clean out the drain line of air conditioners to prevent mold.
-
3
Vent heat or moisture producing appliances outdoors if possible. The stove, clothes dryer and kerosene heaters all produce humidity.
-
4
Turn on the exhaust fan when you are showering to remove the moisture from the air. If you don't have an exhaust fan, open a window to get the moisture and humidity out.
-
5
Dry the shower or tub after you've had a bath. Not only will your shower stay clean, but mold growth is decreased.
-
6
Hang up wet towels from a bath or shower and allow them to dry before placing in a hamper.
-
7
Cross-ventilate your house with the use of ceiling fans or open windows. A well-ventilated house has less humidity and won't produce mold.
-
8
Clean spills immediately to prevent house mold. If you see mold starting to form, dry the wet area and then clean it with a mixture of water and bleach to kill the mold.
