Things You'll Need:
- IPod USB cable
- ITunes
-
Step 1
Open the LimeWire application. Mac users can open it via the LimeWire icon in the dock. PC users should use the "Start" menu.
-
Step 2
Download a music file. Conduct a search and double-click the file name to begin the download. When its status icon reaches 100 percent, the download is complete.
-
Step 3
Open the downloaded file in iTunes. If your iTunes isn't configured to automatically open downloaded music, you'll have to manually do it. Click "File," "Add to Library," and then locate the downloaded file on your hard drive.
-
Step 4
Connect your iPod to your computer via the iPod USB cable. This cable should have come with your iPod when purchased. Make sure your iPod is turned off before attempting to connect it to your computer for file transfers.
-
Step 5
Transfer songs onto your iPod by selecting them in the library and dragging them to the iPod icon. Wait as the data is moved from one location to the other.
-
Step 6
Configure iTunes to automatically transfer downloaded music to your iPod by chosing your iPod from the "Source" list. Then click the "Autofill" option.
-
Step 7
Monitor the transfer status. While a transfer is in progress, you'll get a message warning you not to disconnect your iPod from the computer. Once the transfer is complete, you'll receive an update message.
-
Step 8
Select the "Eject" button from the "Source" list. This will disengage your iPod from the iTunes program. Wait for the iPod icon to vanish from the "Source" list.
-
Step 9
Unplug the USB cable from both your iPod and your computer.
-
Step 10
Turn your iPod on. Use the navigation wheel to search through your music library for the song files you've downloaded from LimeWire. File names and artist information will be transferred to your iPod as they appeared in your iTunes library.
-
Step 11
Consult the Apple iPod manual page for troubleshooting tips (see Resources below).
