There are a few different ways to play Pokemon online. You can either connect one of the newer games to a wireless network or use an unlicensed, but free, online game.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pokemon Diamond or Pearl
  • Nintendo DS or Wii
  • Pokemon Battle Revolution

Play Pokemon Diamond or Pearl on the Internet

  1. Step 1

Find a friend with a copy of Pokemon Diamond or Pearl and sit near each other. You do not have to be near a Wi-Fi hotspot if you are just battling or trading together. Both of you must turn on your DS, and then go into the local-battle mode to play against each other.

  2. Step 2

Go to a Wi-Fi hotspot with your DS and Pokemon game. Here, you can communicate with other Pokemon players around the world and challenge them to matches or just trade monsters. Ask for their friend codes to keep a record of your online Pokemon friends.

  3. Enjoy Pokemon Battle Revolution Online

  4. Step 1

Turn on both your Wii and your DS. In Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, there is an option to connect to the Wii. Connecting will allow you to use your DS Pokemon in Battle Revolution fights, but you don't need a DS to play online.

  5. Step 2

Navigate through the Wii's menu to be sure that you have an active Internet connection. If you have any problems, consult the system-help files or the Wii manual. Start up Battle Revolution once your Wii is online.

  6. Step 3

Choose your options for selecting an online Pokemon battle. You can do a random match or a friend battle if one of your friends is online. You need to have your friend's nickname or her Wii number in order for her to be added to your list of friends.

  7. Battle Online With Other Pokemon Games

  8. Step 1

Look around for a free online Pokemon game that you can play on your computer. These games often don't require the installation of software, working with your web browser instead. There are many online Pokemon sites, like the Pokemon Crater (see Resources below).

  9. Step 2

Sign up to play Pokemon online at one of the available sites, but be sure that you don't have to enter any sort of credit-card information. Remember that these sites aren't run by Nintendo and can't work with other Pokemon products or games.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have Wi-Fi for your Wii at home, there are some third-party USB adapters that you can use to plug an Ethernet cord into your system.
  • Parents should always supervise young children when they are playing games online. Some Pokemon games have chat rooms that contain language that may not be appropriate for all ages.
