Make Your Own Jibbitz for Crocks and other Holey Shoes

Love the look of the little decorator accents so many people wear in their Crocks and other holey plastic shoes? I was shocked to find out they run $5 or more a set; and a set is usually only 5 or 6 items. Now, you can make your own for a fraction of that cost and the designs will truly be unique and able to reflect your own personality. So easy even children can make them under adult supervision!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat buttons
  • Decorative buttons with shanks
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Find a flat button that will squeeze through the hole on your shoes but not easily fit. This will be your base.

  2. Step 2

Thread your needle and make a knot at the end using both ends of the string. Run through flat button and back to other side. Run needle through separate pieces of thread to anchor. Be sure knot is on non-smooth side of button as this is the side you want toward the shoe and not the foot.

  3. Step 3

Run thread back and forth from button with shank (decorative button) through flat button until secure.

  4. Step 4

Knot thread around button and cut. Pop flat button through hole. Make as many up as you want per shoe and enjoy. They are easier to use and cheaper to make than purchasing the original! Have fun!

  5. Step 5

How do they compare? In this photo I show a Jibbit I paid almost $1.50 for (the flower) next to a butterfly I made 6 of for less than $1.50!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you find a flat button you love you can just reverse the process and put your shank button on the bottom of the shoe. Be sure to use as flat a button for the bottom as you can.

on 8/5/2008 Can't wait to try this! I have so many odd but interesting buttons that I could use for this. And a charity garage sale coming up later this month, just have to find the time to whip up some.

on 5/14/2008 It took me awhile to get the directions, but after I decided to sew it together first before putting it in the hole of the shoe it worked. I am going to have fun with this for sure. As I can only wear these shoes because of MS. Thank you so much for this tip.
If you need to email me something I am not doing right, please do so.

Sincerely,
Lucy Lee
