How to Block Downloading of Files Through Limewire Using Linksys Router
The solution to this question depends, some what, on the type of situation you are in. There are a few ways to alter or stop Limewire from downloading and uploading files. Limewire uses port 6346 by default. You can block (filter) that specific port on your Linksys router. However, if the Limewire user changes the port number in Limewire, this method will stop working. Another way you can stop file sharing in Limewire is to change the settings within Limewire to stop file sharing. Then there is the obvious option, you could uninstall the program. I will document the filtering process on the Linksys router here as well changing the Limewire settings.

Go to the Advanced Configuration Settings. In this section you will be able to do a couple different things. You can block specific computers from accessing the web all together or you can filter ports, as well as many other security restrictions. You can filter (or block) the port 6346 for Limewire.

There are several different LinkSys routers on the market. You should look up the model of your router and download the latest manual for the model you have. Here is a link to the LinkSys website that lists all of their routers. Once you've gone to this site, locate Routers and Access Points and choose the type of router you have. Once you've narrowed down which router you have, you will see the link to the Users Manual. Once you've got the manual, locate the Advanced Settings to find out the model specific way to filter a port.
