Step 1
Revolve your Christmas tree theme around a favorite ornament or three of your favorite colors. A monochromatic tree can be elegant, but a more casual look can be accomplished with multiple colors.
-
Step 2
Pick colors that correspond to the theme. If the theme is focused on champagne, golds, yellows and creams would pair nicely.
-
Step 3
Stay away from monochromatic. Similar shades of blue make for a dull holiday tree. But contrasting colors like navy blue, royal blue and baby blue can make a great tri-color combination, especially if the holiday season welcomes a new baby boy to the family.
-
Step 4
Choose a color spectrum. Stay with one particular hue, but choose colors in various tones. For example, if purple is the chosen color go for pastel purple, deep plum, magenta, mauve, violet and royal purples.
-
Step 5
Go with the old standby. If themes are not coming to you easily, opt for a traditional tree with various shades of red, green and white. You can also swap white for a metallic color like silver, bronze or gold.
-
Step 6
Give your tree texture. Choose ornaments that incorporate various fabrics like velvet and ribbons.
