How to Repair Awnings

Things You'll Need
- Wire brush
- Rust inhibiting paint
- Screwdriver
- Paint to match the awning frame
- Material to match the awning
- Scissors
- Water-repellent outdoor glue

Brush any rust or corrosion off the awning frame with a wire brush. Appply a thin layer of rust-inhibiting primer after this is complete, to prevent further problems. Paint the area to match the rest of the frame.

Check the entire awning frame for loose screws and fasteners that need to be tightened.

Spray any leaking canvas on the awning after you have given it a thorough washing with a water repellent spray.

Find a piece of material of similar pattern and color to your awning. Cut a square roughly 1 inch larger the length of the rip.

Mend the rips in the canvas awning. Trim any loose threads from the tear and glue the new material onto the underside of the awning, face up. Use an outdoor, water-resistant glue for this task.
