How to Be Sarcastic

Sarcasm is a tremendous form of communication. Not only does it get your point across, but it can be really funny, too. Some people have a knack for sarcasm, but others may not really know how or when to use it. Keep these steps in mind when you are trying to be sarcastic.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Wait for the right time. Sarcasm is best used when someone says something that is an exaggeration or embellishment. Once someone opens the door for you to be sarcastic you need to jump in right away with a comment.
Step2
Use the tone of your voice, facial expression and body language to indicate sarcasm. Sarcasm can be difficult to pick up on. If you do not vary your delivery it may be tricky for others to know when you are going to be sarcastic.
Step3
Be very careful when using sarcasm in writing. Because the person reading your message cannot pick up on your tone and body language they may not know you are being sarcastic. When sarcasm is missed, it comes across as approval. If someone writes you that they want to die and you reply that it would solve all their problems, they may take that as an endorsement of ending their life. This would be bad.
Step4
Work on it. It can be embarrassing to make a failed attempt at sarcasm. Practice while watching television or reading. Once you feel comfortable with your ability to be sarcastic in private, you can slowly begin utilizing sarcasm with your friends.
