The striped bass is also known by many other names. It is called striper, rockhead, striped sea bass and several other locally known names. Striped bass are light green or brown and have stripes that run along their sides. Striped bass are often fished for in the Atlantic and surrounding coastal areas. The following technique is ideal for surf fishing.
Instructions

-
1
Gather your striped bass fishing supplies. This should include a surf pole, waders, sand spike, bait and tackle. You can use clams for bait when fishing for striped bass.
-
2
Use a high low rig with a pyramid weight. It maximizes your chances of attracting the bass.

3
Find a spot to fish on the beach. You need to look for a deep water hole where the beach horseshoes inward. Ideally, the spot should also be where the water rushes out and creates a turbulent riptide. Bass feed in these saltwater conditions.
-
4
Take the sand spike and push it into the sand at the water's edge. Test to make sure that it is secure and keep it away from an incoming tide.
-
5
Cast the fishing line out into the "hole." Before flipping the bale, let a little line out. Walk the pole back and set it in the sand spike.
-
6
Flip the bale and check to see if the line is taut. The pyramid weight should be anchored under the water.
-
7
Watch and wait while periodically checking your line. You'll see a rap at the top of the pole when the fish has hit the line. Lift your pole from the sand spike and set the hook. Keep the tip of your pole up and reel it in.

Tips & Warnings
You should use the tides to your advantage when fishing for striped bass. The hours just before or after high tide are the ideal times.
While watching and waiting for a bite, you'll see the pole rhythmically sway from the waves crashing against your line. Don't be fooled by this movement and think that you have a fish.
