The beauty of making a custom smiley is that you can be as creative as you want. You don't need to use a text icon or a canned design when you are able to make your own, whether it's a happy or angry design.

Instructions

    Create an Angry Monster Emoticon

  1. Step 1

Open your design software to create a graphic that you will use for the emoticon. If you like, you can manipulate an image you already own or create one on a blank canvas.

  2. Step 2

Try a different shape for the head. It doesn't have to be a perfect circle. Instead, make it a skull, a snake's head, a devil or a raging tiger or bull. Maybe you would like to create a monster instead.

  3. Step 3

Use a non-traditional color for the face. Most emoticons begin with the bright yellow smiley face background. For an angry emoticon, show the feeling with an angry color like red.

  4. Step 4

Make the eyes and eyebrows the focal point of the anger. Squint the eyes. Color them pink with black pupils. Tilt the head down and have the eyes rolled up toward the viewer by placing the eyes lower on the face than usual and putting the pupils high in the eyes. Thick, V-shaped eyebrows truly convey anger.

  5. Step 5

Turn down the mouth. Angry emoticons definitely do not smile. However, they do have pointy teeth, fangs and squiggly lines for lips. They also snarl. They breathe fire. Angry lions and tigers roar, while people who yell have their mouths wide open.

  6. Step 6

Add a scrunched up nose with steam coming out of it. You could also draw ears and have steam coming out of them. If you choose to make your face into a devil, remember to add horns on top of the head.

  7. Step 7

Fill in details with body parts such as hands balled up into fists held close to the emoticon's "body." Draw arms, legs and feet and add any clothing you might want the emoticon to wear.

  8. Step 8

Make it jump up and down or shake in anger if you animate it. Have it pull out its hair. Make the angry face burst into flames or explode into a cloud of dust. Perhaps you can add speech bubbles with symbols to simulate angry words coming out of the emoticon's mouth or thoughts in its head.

Tips & Warnings
  • To use a custom made emoticon in email, message boards or instant messaging, simply highlight the graphic with your mouse, copy it and then paste it where you want it inserted in your document.
