A Snappi cloth diaper fastener is a small, stretchy device used to secure a prefold, flat, or contoured cloth diaper. The Snappi's three "claws" grab the top layer of the fabric to hold it in place. Snappis are faster and easier to use than diaper pins. Use the following instructions to fasten a cloth diaper using a Snappi.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Prefold, flat, or contoured cloth diaper
  • Snappi diaper fastener
  • Diaper cover
  1. Step 1

Lay a tri-folded prefold diaper beneath the baby. Give your Snappi a few tugs to stretch it out, and inspect it for wear and tear.

  2. Step 2

Spread the outer edges of the prefold at the back, so that "wings" come around the baby's sides towards the front.

  3. Step 3

Fold down the front of the diaper to fit up to or beneath the baby's belly button. Fold the excess outwards, so that any stains stay on one side of the diaper. This makes stain removal easier.

  4. Step 4

Spread the front edges to reach the back wings. Leave a small amount of overlap to protect the baby's skin from Snappi claws potentially poking through the fabric.

  5. Step 5

On one side, lay the back wing over the front corner, and place the Snappi on top. Allow the claws to dig into the fabric.

  6. Step 6

Pull the Snappi across to the other side, and hold it steady with one thumb. With the other hand and any free fingers, place the other back wing over the other front corner. Stretch the Snappi across and hook the claw into this wing.

  7. Step 7

Stretch the bottom claw down to the center of the diaper. This claw holds the front section in place, while the horizontal claws secure the back and sides.

Tips & Warnings
  • When correctly fastened, the Snappi makes a "Y" shape on the front of the diaper.
  • Follow all manufacturer's directions when using a Snappi fastener.
  • Discard if the Snappi shows any signs of wear and tear, or if it is older than six months.
  • Always use a diaper cover over a Snappi fastener to avoid snags and curious toddler fingers.
