"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas," the words sung by Irving Berlin in 1942 were relevant then and still hold their power today. Snow and Christmas supposedly go hand and hand; however, the white stuff can be a bit hard to come by in certain regions of the country. Following are a few steps to help make a white Christmas in your home regardless of climate.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Fake snow
  • White Christmas lights
  • A white wreath
  • White garland
  • Silver, white or light-colored Christmas ornaments
  • Fake spray frost or snow
Step1
Go to a decorations or crafts store. Acquire some of the things you'll need to make a White Christmas: fake snow, spray snow, white Christmas ornaments, white lights, white garland and the like.
Step2
Get a Christmas tree that will fit adequately in a prominent room in your home, preferably in front of a window that looks outside. Begin trimming the tree with your ornaments; the more white, silver and metallic ornaments you use the more snowy it will feel in your home.
Step3
Take some of the fake snow and place it around your window sills and around the tree or if you don't want the mess use a white tree skirt. Spray the base of the windows with the spray snow or frost to make it look as though your windows have frosted over.
Step4
Trim your lawn or home with White lights as they will reflect and give a snow like feeling to the outside of your home. Buy or fashion a door wreath made of white wood, and trim with your favorite decorations to help aid in the feeling of winter.
Step5
Play Christmas movies in your home with images of snow and Christmas cheer. Invite carolers to come to your home to sing to you and your family. If you have children putting a bit of snow in the fireplace (if you have one) or in one of the door ways the morning of Christmas will give the illusion of Santa's presence.

Tips & Warnings

  • Simply creating an atmosphere of Christmas in the home will aid in making it seem like a White Christmas. Baking, playing Christmas music, and even keeping the temperature in the house a bit colder (if it's warm outside) will make your home seem more like winter.
  • Try and add splashes of color to the white theme of your home by adding deep red or even blue touches to create some depth. This will help the white to pop more.
  • Small accents like gingerbread houses or nativity scenes can help add to the general Christmas feeling, add a bit of fake snow to them and you can continue the white Christmas theme.
