How to Create a Thief Character in Oblivion

The Thief in Oblivion is a sneaky character, relying on stealth more than strength. The Thief rarely engages in combat face-to-face, instead he prefers to kill from a distance under cover or from behind. Follow these steps to create a custom Thief character that can rival the Grey Fox.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the Khajiit race for a character best suited to sneaking around the dark alleys of Oblivion. The Khajiit offers players a +10 bonus in Agility, Acrobatic and Hand-to-Hand; a +5 bonus on Athletics, Blade, Light Armor, Security and Sneak but also gives a -10 penalty in Willpower and/or Strenth/Endurance depending on gender. However, the Khajiit's best asset is it's unlimited Nighteye ability, making navigating dark dungeons and basements possible without the aid of torches, which lower your Sneak.

    • 2

Choose Thief as your birthsign to give your character an additional +10 bonus in Agility, Luck and Speed.

    • 3

Choose Agility and Speed as your major attributes. Agility maximizes the damage you cause when using bows and also gives you greater ability to sneak and pick locks. Speed can help you to keep out of your enemies' range.

    • 4

Choose Sneak, Blade, Alchemy, Light Armor and Security as your primary skills.

    • 5

Start sneaking around the plains of Oblivion, stealing from the rich and the poor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't rob beggars. They're your eyes and ears and can help you find the best loot in towns.

  • Keep a good stock of lockpicks, they are easy to break. As you become better at picking locks, you can carry fewer.
