Awesome Trick Phrases
Step1
Shout "Big air, dude" when you see a jump that propels the rider to the other side of the wake.
Step2
Say "He was chargin' the wake" when you see a boarder turn back into the wake as hard and with as much speed as she can manage, going as big as possible. It is closely related to "Goin' Off" which means the rider has gotten huge air on his jump.
Step3
Tell other boarders to watch closely because you are going to "Crammit," which is to cram several tricks into the time a rider is in the air.
Step4
Nod your head in approval when someone does something really cool or really crazy and say something like, "That was a nutter grab, dude."
Step5
Punch down on the second wake after doing an excellent trick across the flats. You have "Stomped" it.
Step6
Wear a sly grin. You just did a "Figley," an awesome trick a rider starts, but loses his nerve while during it, usually while he's in the air. Somehow it still ends up looking good. Since he didn't face plant, the Figley looks like he meant to do that all along. Opposite of a "Brain Fart" in which the trick falls apart.
Wipe Out Phrases
Step1
Sometimes there is something just under the water that a rider can't see. Hit one of those and you have "Bonked" it. Not to mention all the winces your fellow riders bestow on you as you limp onto shore.
Step2
Grimace with everyone else in mock support. When a rider wipes out so badly that he has to give up the waves for the day, that's called "Burning the toast." It is similar to "Biggie Fries," a really bad wipe out that usually occurs when the board bites it.
Step3
A "Butt Check" is when you see a rider skid along the water on his butt to regain his balance.
Step4
Say, "Oh, face plant" when a rider's face plants hard in the water.
Step5
Pat your fellow wakeboarder's shoulder and tell him, "Tough durf," meaning any fall, big or small. The "Digger" is the more spectacular fall, usually with the board above the rider.
Random Phrases
Step1
"Brake the ache" at the beginning of the season as you and your fellow wakeboarders stare across the water, anticipating the first ride of the season. Hopefully the water is "butter," meaning it's smooth as glass. Gotta love that first ride.
Step2
Ride with your right foot in front and call yourself a "goofy." Left in front, you'd be known as a "normal." A "fakie" is when you switch your usual feet positions around for a particular trick.
Step3
Drive the boat. Wait for the wakeskater at the end of the rope to shout "Giver!" before you punch the throttle.
Step4
Say "Knarly, sick, tight or steez." Cool words for awesome. "That grab was sick" or "That grab was steez." "Rictor" is used for a strong positive feeling, as in stoked. Trumping them all is "stellination," which is a rush of surprise as in "Whoa, you landed that sick trick."
Step5
Be offended if anyone calls you a "Kook." It means you don't know what you're doing on a board.
Step6
Try to do an awesomely grand trick, but end up in a face plant, that trick will be called "Suspect."
Step7
So dude, get ready to break the ache and charge the rails to achieve big air. I'm ready. "Giver!"
