As people age the skin gets thinner. The delicate skin underneath the eyes turns darker and develops bags if people are genetically predisposed to the condition, or if people indulge in bad habits like smoking or exposure to the sun's UV rays. Treat baggy eyes by trying healthy, natural methods. Remember, plastic surgery should be a last resort for the sensitive eye area.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Drink lots of water every day. Hydrate yourself with eight glasses of water per day. Avoid caffeine, soft drinks and alcohol because these beverages dry out the body and contribute to skin problems.
Step2
Rejuvenate your baggy eyes by placing chilled, used teabags to closed eyes during a nap or at the end of the day. You may also apply a chilled cucumber slice over each eye for fifteen minutes to treat swelling and puffiness.
Step3
Get enough restful sleep each night. Most doctors recommend seven to nine hours. Catch cat naps if possible, especially on busy or stressful days. Sleep on your back, preferably with your head elevated on two fluffy pillows to aid circulation.
Step4
Nix salty foods and saturated fats that cause bloating. Increase intake of fruits and vegetables. Get plenty of Vitamin C through orange juice, grapefruits or vitamin supplements. Some doctors encourage the use of a melatonin supplement to reduce baggy eyes because it enhances the immune system. Check with your medical practitioner before using melatonin, since it should only be used in small doses.
Step5
Stop smoking and avoid second-hand smoke to treat those baggy eyes. It saps the body of much-need vitamin C and can make eyes bloodshot and watery. Check for allergens in your home or workplace that contribute to puffy or swollen skin under the eyes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with your doctor to rule out a thyroid condition if you have a severe case of under eye bags and puffiness.
  • Don't sleep on your stomach. Pressing your face against a pillow causes bloating of the face and under the eyes.

on 5/29/2008 Hi,
I used to get bags under my eyes all the time mostly due to my inability to fall asleep easily. I would stay up late thinking about something then wake up early next morning only to see little bags under my eyes. I somehow managed to kick the habit of staying up late but my eye bags wouldn't go away.I then recently read an article about a woman who supposedly got rid of her eye bags using a particular eye care product. I tried it and it worked really well. I got rid of my eye bags in 3 weeks. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below
