2. Choose basic, conservative colors. Colors also go in and out of style from season to season. While pink dress shirts have been very popular for a several years now, they may be laughable in the future. Stick with basic colors like black, white, gray, tan and blue, and you can't go wrong.

3. Stick to straight, neat and basic lines. As much as the sixties and seventies are remembered for bell-bottoms, straight-legged pants were around then just as they are now. 4. Keep accessories to a minimum. Do not wear things like ties, hats, scarves, pocket chains or jewelry to keep your look timeless. Accessories can also date a look very much.

5. Have basic, classic pieces of clothing in your closet. Some things can stay in style forever.
