Reduce, reuse, recycle;everyone is going green these days and by giving new roles to worn out household items, the planet can breathe a little easier. Bath towels can become cloths for polishing and buffing, scrubbing or mopping up. Grab a pair of sewing scissors or shears and let's recycle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Gather your entire collection of worn out bath towels from around the house.

  2. Step 2

Wash and dry bath towels according to their usual care instructions. When you are ready to use the rags, they will already be clean.

  3. Step 3

Cut along the outer seam or trim of each of the towels. Remove the tag using scissors. This will make the finished cloths uniform.

  4. Step 4

Fold towels in half along the center and cut in a straight line along the fold.

  5. Step 5

Refold each new piece in the same way. Cut the towel into equal pieces so that they are manageable for your hand size and needs.

  6. Step 6

Place cut up bath towels with other cleaning supplies until ready to use. This is a great way to remember you do not have to buy any new cleaning rags for some time.

  7. Step 7

Think about the other items in your home such as threadbare bed sheets and stained cotton clothing that could be recycled in a similar way. Feel good about recycling and saving money.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pick up additional old bath towels at a yard sale. It's cheaper than buying new cleaning cloths even if you spend a dollar.
  • Animal shelters are always willing to accept donations of old sheets and towels, so if you already have enough cleaning rags to last a lifetime, consider donating to a charitable cause.

on 10/13/2008 I like to use old bath towels as quilt batting for small quilted projects like coasters or placemats. They are also excellent as diaper liners for cloth diapers.
