Knowing how to restring your archery bow is an important task to master for bow owners. Most bows should be unstrung during long periods of non-use and then restrung before use to maintain their lifespan. Restringing a bow is fairly simple to do with a bow stringer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bow stringer
  1. Step 1

Slip the big loop on the end of the bowstring over the top limb of the bow, but do not secure it in the tip. Place the bowstring's small loop into the tip of the bottom limb of your bow.

  2. Step 2

Secure the bottom loop to the tip by covering it with the pocket of the bow stringer.

  3. Step 3

Slide the bow string up the upper limb as far as you can. Then slide the saddle end of the bow stringer up the bow until it is just below the bowstring

  4. Step 4

Hold the bows handle in one hand. Keep it low enough that the bow stringers string is touching the ground then place both of your feet on this string to hold it firmly in place.

  5. Step 5

Pinch the saddle of the bow stringer in place and press it as far up the tip as you can keeping it below the bowstring.

  6. Step 6

Pull up slowly and evenly on the bow maintaining your grip on the saddle until the bow is bent far enough to allow you to attach the bowstring to the upper limb.

  7. Step 7

Let go of the saddle slowly and loop the end of the bowstring onto the upper tip of the bow. Once it is in place carefully let the tension off the bow from the bow stringer.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can tell the top and bottom limbs apart on most bows by where the bow weight and length are written. They will be written on the bottom limb.
  • Inspect the bow string loops before using the bow to be certain they are securely placed in the tips.
  • If you do not use a bow stringer to restring a bow, you risk twisting and permanently damaging one of the bow limbs.
