1
Plan the shipping well in advance of the shipping date. Ideally, give yourself a few weeks to get everything done. Know when you need the car to arrive, who will be sending and receiving the package and how much money you have available to spend on the shipping.
-
2
Speak with a shipping agent or company. Ask the representatives about size limitations, cost and, maybe most importantly, available insurance. Also, consider using a company that allows you to track your package so you can breathe easy as your car makes its way from its point of departure to its destination.

Disassemble the car. You should separate the car into as many large parts as possible. Take the wheels and steering wheel off and consider removing the axles from the chassis so that you can protect them from damage. Wrap all parts in foam and bubble wrap and then tightly pack all the pieces into a properly sized box.

Check the car once you receive it. It's important to unwrap all the pieces and check everything for any damaged that might have occurred during the shipping. Finding damage quickly will not only allow you to fix it in time for your race but will also give you grounds for claiming compensation from the shipping company if the damage was a result of negligence or a policy violation.
