How to Install Custom Lots in SIMS 2

The SIMS 2 offers users the option of installing custom content including custom lots for SIMS houses and community lots for shopping and socializing. Installation is a quick, easy process, and a few simple steps will get you through it effectively.

  • Browse SIMS 2 fan sites, posting forums and the Maxis homepage for custom content that you like.

  • Download custom lots to your "My Documents" folder on a PC. Within My Documents > EA Games > The SIMS 2 there should be a folder entitled "Downloads." If the folder isn't there, create one in which to keep your custom lots.

  • Unpack the custom lot with a program like WinZip or WinRar. Custom lots in the SIMS 2 are usually zipped up to make the download faster and more efficient. Trial versions of WinZip and WinRar are available for free.

  • Direct the custom lot package to your downloads folder. WinZip and WinRar will ask where you want to send the unpacked files, and it should go into the same folder where you downloaded the .zip or .rar file.

  • Find the package and install it. Each lot is packaged by the SIMS 2 game. You will recognize the file by its specific file name and an icon that looks like a person's head and shoulders popping out of a blue box. By double-clicking the file name, your custom lot will automatically install where it needs to go.

  • Remove the WinZip or WinRar file if you wish in order to free up your computer's disk space.

  • Play with your new custom lot. All custom lots will appear in the "Lots and Houses" menu of the SIMS 2 game.
