You have an older TV that doesn't have all the inputs to connect your new DVD player, VCR and other components directly to the television set. Connecting your DVD through your VCR results in an unwatchable picture. The correct solution is to connect everything to your TV using an RF modulator.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • RF modulator
  • Coaxial cables
  • Red and white RCA cables
  • Red, white and yellow composite cables
  1. Step 1

Connect your cable box to the coaxial cable that's coming out of the wall. The connection should be labeled "Video In," "Antenna In" or "Cable In."

  2. Step 2

Connect the Video Out from your cable box to your VCR using a coaxial or yellow composite cable. Also connect Audio Out from the cable box to the audio inputs of the VCR using red and white RCA cables.

  3. Step 3

Connect the Video Out terminal on the VCR to one of the "In" ports on the RF modulator using a coaxial cable.

  4. Step 4

Use red, white and yellow composite/RCA cables to connect the Video and Audio Out terminals on your DVD player to the Video/Audio inputs on the RF modulator.

  5. Step 5

Connect the RF modulator from the Video Out terminal to the antenna, Video In or cable terminal on the back of your TV set using a coaxial cable.

  6. Step 6

Tune your TV to Channel 3 and use your cable box to change channels.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will be able to record only what is being broadcast on Channel 3, because you must be tuned to that station to use the equipment connected to the RF modulator.
