How to Hook in Arm Wrestling

There is nothing like a good old arm wrestling contest. Two people, squaring off against one another, their arms forcefully straining, that little vein in their forehead bulging, and the chant of the surrounding crowd inspiring. So if you want to win your next arm wrestling match, try the "hook." Here are a few tips on how to do it.

Instructions

    • 1

Curl your wrist as hard as humanly possible. After grasping your opponent's hand, curl your wrist unexpectedly (and forcefully.)

    • 2

Press your wrist against your opponent's wrist. This will take extra effort on your part after you curl your wrist. But by making contact with the wrist you are weakening your opponent's leverage.

    • 3

Lean your body out over your arm. Your weight will subtly transition over your arm, increasing your overall leverage.

    • 4

Pull your arm in close to your body. This again will have to be accomplished subtly so not to tip your opponent that you are cheating. But the shorter your arm, with the most weight over it, gives you a great overall force mathematically.

    • 5

Push down with your arm and body. Some people will cry foul if you use too much of your body, so accentuate the hook and minimize the appearance of your body forcing their hand down.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only use the hook if you feel you have equal or greater strength to your opponent. If you think you are weaker, check out the toppling method instead of the hook when arm wrestling.
