How to Date a Hermaphrodite

Dating can be a difficult and sometimes stressful event in many people's lives. However, the stress and confusion can be compounded when attempting to date a hermaphrodite. There are unique challenges that arise in this sort of relationship outside of the normal dating confines. Here are some steps to ease the process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Educate yourself on the experience of the hermaphrodite. Find resources with which to help you become acquainted with the biological basis for the condition.

  2. Step 2

Talk openly with your significant other about their specific condition if they are willing to discuss it. Ask respectful and honest questions about the specific sexual concerns or obstacles that arise for them in a sexually active relationship.

  3. Step 3

Become grounded in your own sexuality as this can be an issue in hermaphroditic dating. Your sexual orientation doesn't necessarily depend on the genital make up of the individual but rather the gender they identify with.

  4. Step 4

Be understanding and sensitive to differences in sexual pleasure and hormonal balances. Determine whether you are to have a sexual relationship or primarily companion-based one.

  5. Step 5

Date the person without being concerned with their genitalia. Treat them like you would any other dating prospect and be careful not to dwell on the issue of their condition. This will put strain on the relationship and end in hard feelings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be tolerant and understanding. It is a delicate situation, but not one that is the end of the world. Be empathetic of the person's condition without treating them as a novelty.
  • Education of the situation is the best defense against ignorance and fear. Make it your business to know the facts about the condition and specifically the facts and experience of the hermaphrodite you are dating.
  • Some hermaphrodites do not immediately reveal their condition for fear of rejection, so do not be surprised or enraged if you aren't informed immediately in a casual dating situation.
