A bike rack allows people to hang bikes vertically on a wall. It keeps the bikes organized, untangled and out of the way. Read on to learn how to build a bike storage rack.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape measure
  • 5 vinyl-coated metal hooks
  • 2 2-by-4 boards cut 4 feet long
  • 1 drill
  • 4 3-1/2- or 4-inch screws
  1. Step 1

Measure the length of the bikes from tire to tire. Measure the width of one tire.

  2. Step 2

Start 2 inches from the edge of a 2-by-4. Screw three vinyl-coated hooks into it. Place each hook 22-inches apart. Start 12 1/2 inches from the edge of the other 2-by-4. Screw the other two hooks into the board. They also need to be set 22 inches apart.

  3. Step 3

Drill a hole 1 inch from the end of each 2-by-4.

  4. Step 4

Measure the length of the bike plus 2 inches from the floor up on the wall. Mark the spot.

  5. Step 5

Mount the 2-by-4 with the three screws to the wall at the measured line. Use the 3-1/2- or 4-inch screws for the job.

  6. Step 6

Measure up, from that board, the length of the tire plus 2 inches. Mount the second board.

  7. Step 7

Slide the tire one of the bikes into the hook to hang the bike.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stain or paint the boards to match the décor of the room.
  • To protect the wall behind the rack, hang a sheet of plastic where the tire hits the wall.
