Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Start building your team's endurance in the pre-season. In lacrosse, players run almost non-stop. So develop an endurance workout that will help your students compete with other schools. If you don't know how to plan an endurance program, ask a gym teacher or physical trainer at your team's high school.
Step2
Include a weight training or strength building work out. Strength training will help your players improve their lacrosse game and prevent injuries. If you don't know how to make a strength training plan, you can ask someone at your team's high school to give evaluations and lessons on specific exercises to get you and your team started.
Step3
Work on lacrosse skills. Players will need to know how to throw and catch, as well as pick balls up off the ground and shoot. Develop drills to help your players learn and master these skills.
Step4
Develop a schedule of games. Your team's high school may already have teams ready for you to play. If not, talk to a coach from another team and ask what schools they play. You can call those schools and ask about setting up matches during the lacrosse season.
Step5
Pay attention and give constructive criticism. Basically, be a coach. Tell your players what they are doing right, and tell them what they are doing wrong. When they do something incorrect, make sure you address the problem during a game break and again at the next practice.
Step6
Encourage your team. Even when they're doing well, push them if you know they can do better. If they lose, but worked hard, stay positive. Your goal as a coach should be to teach your players that hard work is more important than winning in many ways.
