How to Send Email on the iPhone

The iPhone by Apple allows users to send email from wherever they are--or at least from any location that receives a wireless Internet signal. You no longer need to be at your computer in order to communicate with your friends and family via email.

Things You’ll Need:

• Email account
• IPhone

1. Select the "Mail" button from the menu on the touch screen.
2. Tap on the "Compose" button. It looks like a pencil held to a piece of paper.
3. Use the keyboard to enter the email address of the recipient into the "To" field. If you saved email addresses as part of your contact information, you can use a shortcut. Tap on the icon that looks like a plus sign inside a circle and choose the appropriate email address.
4. Enter a subject into the subject line of the email. This is not a required field, so you may leave it blank if you wish. Remember that adding a subject line may help the recipient better organize or recall his email messages.
5. Compose your email message. As you type on the keyboard, each letter will appear over your finger.
6. Tap the "Send" button, and your email is on its way to the recipient.
7. Attach an image or picture to your email. Choose the "Photos" option from the "Home" screen of your iPhone. After you pick your picture, touch the box with an arrow in it and hit "Email Photo."
8. Mark an email-in-progress as a draft in order to send it later. Select the "Cancel" and "Save" buttons after you have already started to write your email. It will be saved into the "Drafts" mailbox to be revised later.
9. Reply to an email that you have received by opening the message and hitting the back arrow. Choose "Reply" and continue as if it were a new email.
10. Forward email that you have received to other people. Touch the back arrow, and then tap on the "Forward" option and "Send."

Tips & Warnings

• Having contact information already synced or added to your iPhone is helpful before you start to send an email. It can save you time by allowing you to click on an email address instead of typing it out each time you want to send a message.
• When you begin to write out an email address, the iPhone will show you matching addresses from your contact list, narrowing the list as you continue to type. If you want to use one of these suggested contacts, you can simply tap on it. If you do not want to send email to that person, just continue to type the address you want.
• Heavy use of an iPhone keyboard can cause repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Take frequent breaks when sending a lot of email or using the touch screen to browse websites.
